STEVEN M. GURSTEN
Steven Gursten is recognized as one of the nation's top experts in serious car accident and truck accident injury cases and automobile insurance no fault litigation.
Steve is a Michigan Lawyers Weekly 2008 “Leader in the Law” and 2005 “Lawyer of the Year” out of more than 40,000 practicing attorneys in Michigan. He is a Michigan “Super Lawyer” and is listed in “Best Lawyers in America.”
Based on opinions of lawyers throughout Michigan, Steve has been selected as an AV-rated lawyer by Martindale-Hubbell, the highest lawyer rating available for legal ability and ethics. Most recently, Steve was named in DBusiness magazine as one of the “Best Lawyers in Metro Detroit.”
“One of Michigan's foremost experts on no-fault litigation” — Michigan Lawyers Weekly, June 16, 2008
Recently, Steve was highlighted in a special in-depth analysis by Forbes and Michigan Lawyers Weekly of Michigan's tough auto accident injury threshold laws — and why his clients are succeeding at a time when most people injured in Michigan car and truck accidents are being devastated by the Michigan Supreme Court Kreiner v. Fischer decision.
Steve has received the largest jury verdict in automobile accident cases for four of the past seven years, including 2008. Also in 2008, Steve received the highest settlement in all of Michigan for a truck accident case. This information is based on year-end verdicts and settlements reports by Michigan Lawyers Weekly.
As the newspaper noted, “Gursten is clearly doing something right. Perhaps it's that his firm is the largest in the state specializing in serious car and truck accident cases. Perhaps it's the fact that he's willing to take difficult cases to trial and continues to receive spectacular results. Perhaps it's the fact that he practices law with honesty and integrity. More likely, it is all of these things . . .”
Steve is extensively involved in the legal community in Michigan and across the country. He was president of the American Association for Justice (AAJ) Interstate Truck Litigation Group for the 2007-08 term. The national group is composed of truck accident lawyers working to make unsafe trucking companies follow the laws, and better prepare lawyers who handle serious truck accident cases. Steve also serves on the executive board of the AAJ Traumatic Brain Injury Group; a group of trial lawyers who dedicate major portions of their legal practices to helping victims of traumatic brain injury.
Steve has served on the executive board of the Michigan Association for Justice, where he co-chairs the Automobile Accident No Fault Committee. He is on the board of governors for the Association of Interstate Trucking Lawyers of America, too.
Furthermore, Steve is a contributing author to various legal periodicals and textbooks, including the State Bar of Michigan Negligence Law Section Quarterly. He is author of “Handling Automobile Accident Cases” in the Michigan Lawyers Manual, published by West Publications.
Because he is considered the authority on Michigan auto accident cases, Steve frequently lectures at legal seminars on topics such as trial advocacy, Michigan no fault law, traumatic brain injury cases and maximizing settlements for those injured in serious car and truck accidents.
Steve is a graduate of the University of Michigan and Fordham University School of Law.
