MICHAEL D. RAMSDELL

Michael Ramsdell enjoys an extremely diverse trial practice. He represents an array of clients, from Fortune 500 companies to small businesses and individuals, in federal and state courts in civil and criminal cases. Mike's civil cases include complex, commercial disputes; trademark and copyright infringement; state and municipal tax abatements; wrongful death and personal injury; environmental contamination; and employment claims. His criminal defense caseload includes federal crimes, particularly white collar crimes, state felonies and misdemeanors, and D.W.I.
A trial attorney for nearly 20 years, Mike first achieved success in the public sector as a prosecutor for the New Hampshire Department of Justice. As Associate Attorney General for the Division of Public Safety, Mike was the first Chief of the Homicide Unit and the first Director of the Office of Public Integrity. Mike previously had served as the Chief of the Criminal Justice Bureau. As a federal prosecutor, Mike served two years as a specially designated Assistant United States Attorney for the investigation and prosecution of a double homicide and armored car robbery.
In 1998, Mike left the public sector for private practice. Five years later, Mike's peers recognized his civil litigation accomplishments in a poll conducted by the New Hampshire Bar Association and published in New Hampshire Magazine in the "Tenacious Defender - Civil Law" category. Mike's civil practice includes significant commercial litigation. He represents numerous utilities in state and municipal tax, regulatory permit and other litigation. Mike managed and actively handled a majority of the administrative, regulatory, and condemnation litigation in New Hampshire for an international natural gas pipeline. His recent work includes a successful challenge to an award of a significant state contract, the defense of a major financial institution in a class action, the defense of a latex glove manufacturer in a products liability and breach of warranty case, the defense of a substantial securities fraud criminal indictment, the defense of a copyright and trademark infringement action, and the prosecution of a complex intellectual property claim pursued under the New Hampshire Uniform Trade Secrets Act.
A former law clerk to United States Magistrate Judge William H. Barry, Jr., Mike is a member of the American and New Hampshire Trial Lawyers Associations, and the National and New Hampshire Association(s) of Criminal Defense Lawyers. He is a member of the Criminal Justice Act panel for the United States District Court for the District of New Hampshire. Mike is a member of the Bars of the United States Supreme Court, the First Circuit Court of Appeals, the State of New Hampshire and the United States District Court for the District of New Hampshire.
Mike graduated summa cum laude from Central Connecticut University in 1983 and from New York Law School in 1985.
