Darryl Phillips
Darryl M. Phillips, a partner of Phillips & Mitchell L.L.C., was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on August 3, 1962. He attended Loyola University on a full academic scholarship and graduated in 1984 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Relations and Advertising, with a minor in Marketing. Mr. Phillips was a reservist in the United States Marine Corps and was attached to the Judge Advocate General's (JAG) Office of the 4th Marine Aircraft Wing. After completing undergraduate school at Loyola University, Mr. Phillips worked as a metals broker in Chicago, Illinois and returned to New Orleans to pursue a law degree after receiving a full academic scholarship to Loyola University Law School based on his Law School Admissions Test (LSAT) scores. While at Loyola, he was selected as a member of the National Moot Court Team and Recipient of the First Place Team Member Award, Region VII, National Moot Court Team, 1987-1988. Mr. Phillips was also awarded the Medal for Excellence in Advocacy by the American College of Trial Lawyers, 1988, and was selected as Loyola's National Moot Court Team Coach in 1989. He went on to receive his Juris Doctorate or law degree from Loyola University Law School in 1989.
Bar Admissions
Mr. Phillips is admitted to practice law in all the district courts, appeals courts and Supreme Court for the State of Louisiana. He is also admitted to practice before the United States District Court for the Eastern, Western and Middle Districts of Louisiana and United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit in 1989.
Areas of Practice
Mr. Phillips concentrates his practice in the area of serious personal injury litigation and wrongful death cases. The specific areas of practice include automobile and truck accidents, medical malpractice, premises, general and product liability cases, and maritime/Jones Act seamen cases.
Organizations and Affiliations
Darryl M. Phillips was a member of the Mayor's Neighborhood Revitalization and Housing Task Force, 1991-1992. While a member of the Louisiana State Bar Association he served as Secretary, Civil Law Section and Articles Writer of the Civil Law and Developments Section, Louisiana Bar Journal, 1993-1996. He has been a member of several Federal Bar Associations; the Louisiana Trial Lawyer's Association, the American Trial Lawyers Association, the American Judicature Society, the National Bar Association and Louis Martinet Society, Thomas More Inn of Court, 1989-1998. Attorney Chairman of Hearing Committee #23 of the Louisiana Attorney Disciplinary Board, 1998. Mr. Phillips is also a Senior Counsel in the American College of Barristers, which status is conferred consistent with the Common Law Tradition of honoring Skill and Experience as a Trial Lawyer as well as a demonstrated commitment to promoting Excellence in the Art of Trial Advocacy. In 2002, Mr. Phillips became a Charter Member of the International Society of Primerus Law Firms and listed in the Martindale-Hubbell legal directory and rating service.

Mr. Phillips has been an instructor and faculty member for various Continuing Legal Education Courses including:
- Premises Liability: Preparation and Trial of a Difficult Case in Louisiana, Continuing Legal Education, 1995;
- Trying the Automobile Injury Case in Louisiana, Continuing Legal Education, 1996;
- Summer School Faculty Instructor, Louisiana State Bar Association Convention, 1998;
- Evaluating the Crashworthiness Case, American Trial Lawyers Seminar, 1999;
Mr. Phillips is scheduled to be a guest lecturer at the 2002 Louisiana State Bar Convention in Destin, Florida at the Sand Destin Resort on the topic of "Vior Dire and Jury Selection".
Legal Rating
Darryl M. Phillips has earned an "AV" rating from The Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory. That rating reflects the confidential opinions of the Bar and Judiciary. Martindale-Hubbell ratings fall into two categories - legal ability and general ethical standards. Legal Ability Ratings are:
- C - Good to High
- B - High to Very High
- A - Very High to Preeminent
There is one general ethical standard rating "V" or "very high". An attorney will not receive a Legal Ability rating unless he or she has been endorsed for a "V." Only when both ratings are confirmed will an attorney receive a rating.
