John W. Chandler, Jr.

John W. Chandler, Jr. “The Railroad Accident Lawyer” is from a family of Tennessee attorneys. John’s Grandfather Walter Chandler started practicing law in Memphis, Tennessee in 1908 and founded the firm that eventually evolved into the current firm of Baker Donelson. His father Wyeth Chandler started practicing law with his father in Memphis, Tennessee in 1952. His daughter Louise Chandler recently graduated from the University of Memphis College of Law. A past Chair of the AAJ Railroad Litigation Section, John started his practice with the prestigious Memphis firm of Burch, Porter & Johnson in 1978, and moved his practice to Chattanooga, Tennessee in 2001. He has been associated with the Law Offices of Morgan Adams since 2008.

John Chandler devotes his law practice to representing people who are the victims of negligent conduct, with emphasis on automobile, truck, and railroad accidents. He has successfully litigated and tried cases in State and Federal Court for those who have suffered catastrophic injuries or for the family members of those who have been killed in automobile accidents, tractor-trailer accidents, and railroad crossing accidents throughout the State of Tennessee and in several other States. He has obtained several jury verdicts and settlements in excess of one million dollars, recovering millions and millions of dollars for his clients, and has been a member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum since 1985.

Mr. Chandler has been asked to teach other lawyers across the nation and has published and lectured widely on the handling of automobile accidents, truck accidents, and railroad accidents. He also has been the Editor of Handling Motor Vehicle Accident Cases, 2nd Edition, (Thompson West) since 2001. Since 1984, Mr. Chandler has been recognized by his peers with an AV rating with Martindale Hubbell that identifies him as a lawyer with the highest legal skills and the highest professional ethical standards.

Andrew R. Carr, Esq. v. Tipton County, Tennessee, et al.

United States District Court for the Western District of Tennessee Docket No. 89-3090-ML/B

Obtained a jury verdict in excess of 1.6 Million Dollars on behalf of the parents of a man who had been shot and killed by a Tipton County Sheriff’s Deputy in a claim brought under 42 U.S.C. §1983. Shanklin v. Norfolk Southern Railway Company 369 F. 3d 979 (6th Cir. 2004)

Along with Pamela O’Dwyer of Chattanooga, Tennessee, represented widow and son at second trial of railroad-highway grade crossing case that resulted in a 1.4 Million Dollar verdict. Original verdict of $400,000.00 had been reversed and remanded by the United States Supreme Court on the basis of Federal pre-emption of signalization claim.
